Welcome to the Ludlow Art Society, which has been in existence since 1946.

Our President is Charles MacCarthy and details of his background and working methods can be found on the Presidents page  where you can also find details of our Committee.

Our members range from professional and semi-professional artists in painting, sculpture and glass to amateurs who are very experienced and beginners just starting out, so you can be sure of a warm welcome from like minded people.  Membership costs £16.00 per year but students can join free of charge.

The society is well known for the high quality and eclectic mix of styles, subjects and mediums in our twice yearly exhibitions, which are held in spring and late summer.  Many of our supporters return regularly, year after year,  to follow favourite artists and buy new works which are frequently very competitively priced.

Members are encouraged to show their work and and entry fees are based on type of work, size and numbers entered.  The latter may be restricted depending on available space, but no member will ever be refused entry (examples of previous entry fees can be found on the exhibition page). The society takes a 20% commission on any sales apart from greeting cards which are free from commission.  Entry is also dependent on exhibitors attending as stewards during the course of the exhibition but this is generally only for one half day.

As well as our exhibitions we have monthly evening meetings (generally the first Thursday of the month) at Ludlow’s Assembly rooms.  Visiting speakers talk on art based themes and there are demonstrations by selected artists. We have recently introduced a “Monthly Draw” where all members are invited to bring along a sketch or painting based on a subject, chosen at random, during the previous meeting.  This is good fun and useful to see, and be able to discuss, the various approaches to the subject.  Entrance fees to evening meetings are £3.00 for members, £1.00 for students and £5.00 for non members.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for which we ask for a small donation of approx 50p.

Workshops, tutored by members or other leading artists are arranged from time to time and may be held in Ludlow or at one of the many excellent village halls local to Ludlow.  Workshops are priced competitively depending on the artist’s fees.

In the summer months outdoor painting is encouraged by monthly planned outings to interesting local spots, all selected bearing in mind good lunchtime facilities so that when we are tired of painting we can relax with like minded friends and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat whilst discussing our work.  There is no cost to attend these meetings, just turn up on the day.

If you like to paint with other artists, members have an open invitation to attend Little Hereford Art Group’s monthly meeting (third Monday of the month) where there may be a tutor, or a group member leading a session or they may just be painting together in the village hall or beautiful local countryside.   The cost is £3.00 for the session, which is usually from 10.30 - 14.30ish.  this includes tea, coffee and biscuits.  More info is entered closer to the date on our LAS members Facebook page but generally just turn up.
