Welcome to Ludlow Art Society

Welcome to Ludlow Art Society, which has been in existence since 1946.

Our President is Dr. Peter Bishop of whom you can read more on the Presidents Page which is accessed from the Committee Page.

Our members range from professional artists in painting, sculpture, textiles, installations, ceramics and digital art, to amateurs, to beginners just starting out, so whatever your current level of skill, you can be sure of a warm welcome from like minded people.  Membership is £16 per year but students can join for a reduced subscription of £5.

The society is well known for the high quality and eclectic mix of styles, subjects and mediums in our twice yearly exhibitions, which are held in spring and late summer.  Many of our supporters return regularly, year after year, to follow favourite artists and buy new works which are frequently very competitively priced.

Members are encouraged to show their work at our exhibitions. Submission fees are low, and based on the size of work entered (recent submission fees can be found on the exhibition forms page).  Works are not selected.  Every member is entitled to enter their work. The society takes a 20% commission on sales.  Exhibitors are expected where possible to act as stewards during the course of the exhibition, generally for half a day, working in pairs.

As well as our exhibitions we have monthly evening meetings (usually the first Thursday of the month) at Ludlow Assembly Rooms.  Visiting speakers talk on art based themes and there are demonstrations by selected artists.  Admission to evening meetings is £3 for members, £6 for non-members and £1 for students.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for which we ask for a contribution of 50p, or you can buy drinks from the house bar.

Workshops, tutored by members or other leading artists are arranged from time to time and may be held in Ludlow or at one of the many excellent village halls local to Ludlow.  Workshops are priced competitively depending on the artist’s fees.

In the summer months outdoor painting is encouraged by monthly planned outings to interesting local spots, selected bearing in mind the availability of refreshments & facilities.  There is no cost to attend (except car parking or specific event charges where these apply).  Just turn up on the day.

If you like to paint with other artists, members have an open invitation to attend Little Hereford Art Group’s twice-monthly meetings (1st & 3rd Monday of the month) where there may be a tutor, or a group member leading a session or they may just be painting together in the village hall or beautiful local countryside.  The cost is £3.00 for the session, which is usually from 10.30 - 14.30ish.  this includes tea, coffee and biscuits.
