Please Note: This Event Has Been Cancelled

Spring Exhibition 2020

Now that spring is in the air, we need to set things in motion for our spring exhibition (22nd May - 1st June 2020) and we need a team of volunteers to help organise it. There are a multitude of tasks required to be done and most are quite easy and won't take a lot of time. This is your art society and your exhibition so let's make it happen.

We are planning an inaugural meeting for one evening either the 23rd, 24th, 26th or 27th March.
Please can you email me Larry Turner laurencepturner@gmail.com to let me know which evening is most suitable for you.

The exhibition can not go ahead if there are insufficient people to help.

Many Thanks

Larry Turner
Exhibition Coordinator
Ludlow Art Society.

FOR MARCH the formal, LAS-convened social is cancelled (Normally it would be: 18th of every month - The LAS Social. Blue Boar, Ludlow, 8pm)

Dear all,
PLEASE NOTE we expect that THIS EVENT, in its formal format, will be cancelled due to health reasons.

Please note that any members are, of course free to attend any venues they wish and enjoy discussing art or anything else they wish to, unless otherwise restricted or socially controlled.  It is simply that LAS is not formally convening or hosting such an event this month.

Future formal LAS Socials will be reviewed as the situation develops, changes, and resolves.
Thank you for your patience.
Stay safe, and I hope your time includes as much Art as you wish.

best,
Matt

Matt Smart, LAS

The Blue Pearl Research Project - Art And Wellbeing

My name is Frances Clarke I am a visual artist of 20 years conducting an ongoing research project that aims to establish science based evidence to evaluate the impact that visual art has on the physical and psycho emotional well-being of people.

I would like to extend this invitation to members of the LAS for participation in the research. There are 30 places available. If you would like to participate please send me your name and email address– details below. I will then sent you a registration form and we can book you in. The research will take place between March the 16th and March 27th.

The research will take place in my studio in Ludlow and will last for approximately one hour. You will be asked to select and observe a painting and a simple scientific evaluation will be conducted before and after viewing that painting. Some personal data from you such as your age and contact details will be collected and stored in compliance with the GDPR. You will be asked to complete a feedback form at the end of the session. Each person will be given a reference number which will be used for any future presentations, exhibitions or publications.

For any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be bringing some registration forms along to the AGM.

LAS Socials and some Whats-On communications

Hello, members of LAS, art lovers and friends,
The Art Society has many projects for 2020. Exhibitions and events are getting organised, for us all to participate, exhibit, or just enjoy and bring people along.
There are LAS socials every 18th of the month in the Blue Boar, Ludlow. The January Social was fun, lots to talk about, and cosy.
There will be reminders a few days before each LAS Social, here in the blog, and by email to members. Bring along non-member friends too if you like - the Society is open to anyone interested, and artists joining LAS.
The Socials are also 'Events' on Facebook, to fit FB users' calendars. Search for Ludlow Art Society. You can click "Interested" or "Going" and you will get a reminder when it's coming up, or you can check your FB calendar. And share it with arts friends. https://www.facebook.com/ludlowartsociety/
https://www.facebook.com/events/393303684837654/?event_time_id=393303718170984

If you are outside Ludlow, car travel may not suit a pub social. If there are other members in your town, maybe organise a local LAS Social. Tell us and we'll publicise it so more people can come along.

If members would like to share info about an event, an exhibition you are in, get feedback about art pieces you are working on, or discuss techniques and arts interests, you can do so by posting to the Ludlow Art Society Facebook page. Some events could be picked up, posted on the blog, and then email-circulated to LAS members.

The Ludlow Art Society has been an artists' community since 1946. Thank you for being part of its growth and activities and breath.
See you at an event!

This Decade’s first Spotlight shines on movement. Art makes the world go round. Art can depict movement, and cause movement.
Here are some artworks.  See if you can guess what they are called, and who painted or made them.

Here is the list of the artists and the titles of those 11 artworks.  Can you match the images to the artists?  Play it with friends if you like....

Ed Ruscha, “Cold Beer Beautiful Girls”
Francis Bacon, “Three Studies of Lucian Freud”
Edgar Degas, “Petite Danceuse de quatorze ans”
Carel Fabritius, “Hagar and the Angel”
Glenn Ligon, “Black Like Me No. 2”

   Fernand L├ęger’s “Les Deux Bicyclettes”
   Tracey Emin, “For You”
Bedda, “It does not matter where we are”
Thomas Hart Benton, “Back From the Fields”

To see the answers of which artwork is which, go here...

After we have done that, we can look at who owned or bought the artworks.  To see the list of the various owners, with photographs of them, go here...
https://ludlowartsociety.blogspot.com/2013/01/spotlight-who-part-3-owners-who-made.html
No peeking!
