Upcoming - Peter Bishop's talk on Snowdonia's Mountains in Art

On Thursday 1st October, Peter Bishop, a lecturer for many years on British and Welsh art, will be giving us a talk based on his new book.

He kindly sent over some information and some art ahead of his talk:

"Peter Bishop attended the Slade School of Fine Art in the early 1970s and held his first solo exhibition in London in 1975. He is a landscape painter and from 1975 to 1987 he produced both Alpine and Welsh border landscapes which were exhibited in a number of venues. A selection of these paintings were shown at the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery in 1987. After this he began to paint the mountains of Snowdonia as his main subject. From 1987 to 2008 he was represented by the renowned Kilvert Gallery, Clyro. His most recent one-person show was at the Museum of Modern Art, Wales in 2012.
In 1995 he obtained an MA in the History of Art and a doctorate in 2002 from Aberystwyth University for research on Snowdonia and its representation in art. This talk will cover both examples of Peter's mountain paintings and selected examples from its rich history. This subject is fully explored in his lavishly illustrated book; The Mountains of Snowdonia in Art, published earlier this year. "
