Spotlight - Alma Tadema's Spring

The weather's getting colder, isn't it? Summer's long past, but Spotlight can still provide a little warmth with this month's feature on Lawrence Alma Tadema's masterwork, Spring.

Over at the Muddy Colors blog, artist Howard Lyon gives us some details about the painting, as well as several close-ups (and if your connection is up to it, a link to a 53mb high-resolution scan of the work). The link to Howard's post is here: http://muddycolors.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/spring-lawrence-alma-tadema.html

In addition, Mr Lyon also links to Getty Publication's Virtual Library, where you can find a free to view or download copy of the 1990 book 'Lawrence Alma Tadema: Spring' by Louise Lippincott - "The author traces the history of the painting and provides an analysis of its sources, composition, and symbolism. The book is lavishly illustrated and includes many details from the painting." You can find that link here: http://www.getty.edu/publications/virtuallibrary/0892361867.html?subject=hstr

If you know any great art websites or articles, why not share them here? Send your suggestions to samsketches@yahoo.co.uk - please note that this isn't for self-promotion.
