Spotlight - A Colour Chart Before Pantone
This month, Spotlight takes a look at the work of a dedicated Dutch artist who, in 1692, took it upon himself to write (and paint) in detail about mixing watercolors.
From the article, "Not only would he begin the book with a section about the use of color in painting, but would go on to explain how to create certain hues and change the tone by adding one, two, or three parts of water. The premise sounds simple enough, but the final product is almost unfathomable in its detail and scope."

If you know any great art websites or articles, why not share them here? Send your suggestions to samsketches@yahoo.co.uk - please note that this isn't for self-promotion.

Logos!
How are those logos coming on? Just to remind you of the rules:
There are a few rules, but they're pretty simple:
How will the contest work?
Oh, and on a different note, don't forget it's Eclectic Sofa night tonight, 7pm - 11pm, at the Sitting Room (above the Thai Box).
There are a few rules, but they're pretty simple:
- Keep it roughly similar in dimensions to the current one (but squared, or rotated to landscape would be fine) - nothing very long and thin or tall and wide, please! Having said that, feel free to be creative with the shape.
- It's got to look good when seen both larger and smaller.
- Feel free to make alterations to our current logo, or come up with something totally new.
- You may submit as many entries as you like.
- It should include the words 'Ludlow Art Society'
- You must be an LAS member to enter this contest.
- This is open media - no restrictions here.
How will the contest work?
- Entries, preferably in .jpg form, are to be sent to samsketches@yahoo.co.uk (I'm not allowed to enter!)
- I will take the designs and show them, with no names given, to the rest of the Committee.
- The Committee will decide the winning entry, which will become our new logo.

Pictures from Rob Leckey's Talk
Rob brought along several paintings, so we could see the textural effects his collage techniques create. He took us through his process and materials (dig out your old credit cards - there's painting to be done!), showing how two of his pictures were build up from the mountboard base to the final. He then showed us a collection of his paintings, and explained a little the ideas and methods used in them.
Here are some pictures from the evening:
Thanks, Rob!
Next month, on June 5th, we have illustrator and cartoonist Carol Davies talking about her work - and you can have a go at cartooning, too!
Don't forget our logo competition, the Fringe Art Trail (the LAS section will be in the Wine Bar in Quality Square, and will be curated by Jean Simnett).
