Spotlight - Caravaggio, the Complete Works

We're keeping it simple for this month's Spotlight post - the complete works of Caravaggio, a man perhaps most famous for his use of chiaroscuro (dramatic contrasting of light and dark).

Upcoming - AGM

On Thursday 7th March the LAS will have it's Annual General Meeting. All Members are welcome, and, as mentioned earlier, are invited to bring along a piece of work and tell us all something about it.

See you there!

Events Coming Up!

On the 10th and 11th of August, the Boar's Head Gallery in Kidderminster is running, for it's second year, the 'Above Boards Paint Jam'. It will feature live painting from local and national artists working on large white boards, and artists are presently being booked.

You can see photos of last year's jam on Facebook (it's a public gallery, you don't need to be a member to view it):

I'll be painting there, as will LAS Committee member Lesley Connolly. If you want to take part, you can contact Coz at for more details.

There's more, though! Over in Shrewsbury, the Art! Squad has just started up. Run on the first Wednesday of every month at the Shrewsbury Coffeehouse, it's a friendly gathering of artists of all types. There's also a theme for each month, and you're invited to bring along a piece of work on that theme for a chance to have it hung in the Coffeehouse for a month (there may also be other prizes) - March's theme is 'Growth', to be interpreted any way you want. Here's the flyer:

Happy Year of the Snake!

I found this video, and just had to share it with you - truly amazing brush control.

Pictures from Bobby Britnell's talk

Bobby showed us some of her mixed media textile-based work, and explained what it is that inspires her to create in the way that she does. She also brought some sketchbooks, so we could see the genesis of those concepts.

Next month, on the 7th, we have our AGM - it's little different this time, as you're invited to bring a piece of work and tell us something about it!

Footprints and Hearts Exhibition Room

Footprints and Hearts, the shop located at the lower end of Corve Street (number 14), is offering exhibition space to local artists.

They like to have work for two-month periods, and have four available spaces (depending on sizes) from the beginning of this month (with a maximum of eight pieces at any one time). There's no charge for exhibiting, but the shop would take 20% commission.

Anybody interested is invited to have a look at the spaces - the shop is open Mon-Sat and from 10am-4.30pm.
