13th Summer School

The 13th Summer School is now taking bookings - it's an opportunity to get 3 days of intensive tuition, drawing or painting in any medium.

There will be two one-hour sessions in the morning with a half-hour break for coffee, then one hour for lunch and a further two one-hour sessions in the afternoon with a half-hour tea break. Please bring any materials you need including easels and boards. Numbers are limited so it's advisable to book early.

Portrait - 3rd, 4th and 5th August 2012

In the three-day concentrated course we shall be looking at the different aspects of the human head, working from a choice of two models. Teaching will be on an individual basis. Areas covered will include structure, tone, colour, materials and technique.

Still Life - 10th, 11th and 12th August 2012

A three-day workshop with several different set-ups to choose from, including plants, flowers, natural history specimens, garden implements, beach debris and household items. We will consider the possible compositions and then spend the rest of the time working on a complete painting. Shape, texture and form will be studied and tuition will be on an individual basis so is suitable for all abilities. For surfaces, A2 at least or similar is advised, and an easel if you have one. It will be possible to sit or stand to work.

Life Drawing - 17th, 18th and 19th August 2012

This is an opportunity to make a complete life painting of the model in a setting. The three-day workshop will begin with a series of studies to explore the various possible compositions and then to work on a thorough drawing considering the shapes, structure and essential lines of the pose. The rest of the time will be for working on the main painting so please bring an A2 board and paper for drawing and a canvas or board or paper with an easel if you have one, and also your painting and drawing materials of choice.
Short poses will come towards the end of the sessions as people have their eye in better at the end of the day, they are more relaxed and it gives a fresh impetus after long concentration. It will be possible to sit or stand for work.
